TEACH THE CHILDREN

Around 2012, I found a child’s action figure-headless- in the street. At the same time, I had been reading a relentless stream of news stories about violence around the world.

My reaction was to link the two by overlaying a drawing of the action figure onto violent photos from Newsweek. This linkage is meant to emphasize the problem of introducing violent culture to our youth that has the possible effect of, at the minimum, inuring people to the horrors of violence and, at the maximum, giving people the idea that violence is an acceptable solution.

All the pieces are done using crayon and are 9” x 11”.
